Enbridge Gas Ontario Supports Firefighter Training in The County
Date: January 7, 2026
Firefighters rely on constant training to stay prepared for the unpredictable, high-risk situations they face every day. Thanks to new funding support from Enbridge Gas Ontario, Prince Edward County Fire and Rescue will be better equipped with updated training materials that help ensure firefighters have the knowledge and skills they need to do their jobs safely and effectively.

Through the Safe Community Project Assist program—delivered in partnership with the Fire Marshal’s Public Fire Safety Council (FMPFSC) - Enbridge Gas Ontario is helping local fire departments strengthen their emergency response capabilities. The program supplements existing training for volunteer and composite fire departments in communities where Enbridge Gas operates across Ontario.
Investing in Safety and Preparedness
In 2026, Enbridge Gas Ontario committed $125,000, which will be shared among 25 Ontario fire departments, including Prince Edward County Fire and Rescue. The funding is specifically used to purchase educational materials that support firefighter training in life-saving techniques and emergency response scenarios.
“Safety is at the heart of everything we do at Enbridge Gas, it’s one of our core values,” said Mike Cooney, Supervisor – Operations, Enbridge Gas. “We’re proud to support Ontario firefighters with emergency response training that helps them strengthen their skills, stay prepared, and continue protecting the vibrant communities they serve.”
Since the Safe Community Project Assist program began in 2012, nearly 400 grants have been awarded to fire departments across the province, helping to enhance training resources and improve community safety.
Strengthening Local Fire Services
For Prince Edward County Fire and Rescue, the funding will directly support the purchase of the latest edition of firefighter training materials, ensuring training remains current and aligned with modern firefighting standards.
“This grant has helped equip our training department with updated resources,” said Interim Fire Chief Tim Kraemer. “In high-risk professions, quality training isn’t just about skill development—it’s about ensuring our people return home safely at the end of every shift.”
Chief Kraemer emphasized that the funding reflects a shared commitment to protecting firefighters and the community they serve, particularly as emergency response environments become more complex and demanding.
A Province-Wide Commitment to Fire Safety
The Fire Marshal’s Public Fire Safety Council plays a key role in supporting initiatives like Safe Community Project Assist. Chaired by the Ontario Fire Marshal, the FMPFSC focuses on fire prevention, public education, and firefighter safety through partnerships and sponsorships across the province.
“Fire departments across Ontario train every single day,” said Jon Pegg, Ontario Fire Marshal and Chair of the FMPFSC. “Access to the right training materials is essential to keeping firefighters and the public safe.”
Protecting Those Who Protect Us
Prince Edward County Fire and Rescue continues to serve the community through fire protection services, emergency response, fire safety education, and Ontario Fire Code compliance. Programs like Safe Community Project Assist help ensure firefighters have the tools they need to respond confidently and safely—no matter the situation.
Support from organizations like Enbridge Gas Ontario reinforces the importance of investing in frontline emergency services and recognizing the vital role firefighters play in keeping communities safe.
