UPDATE: All lanes of Highway 401 have since reopened.

Ontario Provincial Police are asking the public for assistance following a fatal multi-vehicle collision on Highway 401 in Lennox and Addington County earlier this week.

Traffic camera above a busy highway captures blurred cars. Concrete overpasses and warm sunset hues create an urban atmosphere.

Police are seeking witnesses or dash cam footage from anyone who may have been travelling through the area at the time of the crash. Anyone with information is asked to contact L&A County OPP at 1-888-310-1122. Those wishing to remain anonymous can reach Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or submit tips online.

Emergency crews from Napanee and Tyendinaga OPP, along with EMS, responded to the scene shortly before 6:30 a.m. after reports of a serious collision involving two transport trucks and a passenger vehicle.

The crash occurred on Highway 401 between County Road 49 (Exit 566) and Shannonville Road/County Road 7 (Exit 556), east of Shannonville Road. As a result of the incident, both eastbound and westbound lanes were closed for several hours, with westbound traffic reopening first.

Police confirmed that one individual was pronounced dead at the scene, while another was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

OPP Technical Collision Investigators and a Collision Reconstructionist were called in to assist, contributing to what authorities described as a lengthy highway closure while the investigation continued.
