Prince Edward County OPP has officially appointed Staff Sergeant Jeff MacKinnon as its new detachment commander, moving him from the interim role he has held since May 2025 into the position permanently.

MacKinnon steps into the role following the retirement of longtime commander John Hatch, who led the detachment for approximately 10 years.

“It is a privilege and an honour to serve as Detachment Commander for Prince Edward County,” said MacKinnon, emphasizing the importance of working closely with community partners to address local priorities.

With nearly 30 years of policing experience, MacKinnon began his career with the Ontario Provincial Police in 1995 after earning a Bachelor of Arts in Law from Carleton University.

He first served in Matheson in the Northeast Region before transferring to Prince Edward County in 2000, where he worked in frontline policing and spent time in the Crime Unit.

MacKinnon was promoted to sergeant in 2008 and moved to the Bancroft detachment. In 2018, he advanced to staff sergeant and took on the role of detachment commander in Bancroft before returning to Prince Edward County in his current leadership position.
