Local Financial Planners Turn Tax Season Into $10,870 for Picton Hospital Campaign
A simple tax season initiative is continuing to make a meaningful impact in Prince Edward County.

Barbara Shuster and Scott Lavender, Certified Financial Planners with IG Wealth Management, have once again supported the Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital Foundation’s (PECMHF) Back the Build campaign, marking their fourth consecutive year of giving.
This year, the pair raised $2,370 through a community-focused tax clinic held for residents of Wellington on the Lake. In exchange for preparing income tax returns, clients were invited to make a donation to the hospital campaign.
Shuster and Lavender matched those contributions, doubling the impact.
Their ongoing efforts have now contributed a total of $10,870 to the campaign.
Both Shuster and Lavender live in Prince Edward County and have built this initiative as a way to combine their professional services with local giving. The annual tax clinic has become a practical and accessible way for residents to support the future of healthcare in the region.
Shannon Coull, Executive Director of the PECMH Foundation, noted that initiatives like this help strengthen community involvement while directly supporting the long-term vision for healthcare in the County.
With construction already underway for the new hospital, Shuster and Lavender say they remain committed to continuing their support. They also credit the strong participation from Wellington on the Lake residents, whose enthusiasm for the project has helped drive the fundraiser’s success.
The Back the Build campaign is working to raise $30 million to help build and equip the new Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital, ensuring improved care for residents and visitors alike.
