Loyalist College Appoints New President and Chief Executive Officer
Date: February 22, 2023

Loyalist College has confirmed the appointment of Mark Kirkpatrick as its new President and Chief Executive Officer, effective March 1, 2023.
Kirkpatrick has been serving as the institution’s acting president since last summer, following the departure of the former president who accepted a position at another post-secondary institution. His permanent appointment was unanimously approved by the College’s Board of Governors.
With more than 17 years of leadership experience at Loyalist College, Kirkpatrick has held several senior roles, including Senior Vice-President of Corporate Services, Chief Financial Officer, and Director of Information Technology. During his tenure, he played a key role in modernizing the College’s technology infrastructure and led the planning and financial strategy that resulted in the development of Loyalist’s campus in Port Hope.
Board leaders credited Kirkpatrick with providing steady leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic, noting his focus on maintaining financial stability while prioritizing the health and safety of students and staff. The College also avoided layoffs and operating deficits during this period.
Board Chair Pam Jolliffe praised Kirkpatrick’s commitment to students and community partners, highlighting his focus on innovation, program renewal, and long-term institutional growth. She expressed confidence in his ability to advance the College’s strategic vision.
Kirkpatrick described the appointment as both an honour and a responsibility, emphasizing his deep connection to the College and the communities it serves. He noted that Loyalist’s values of inclusivity, accountability, and creativity continue to guide its work, and he expressed optimism about the College’s role in driving regional growth and innovation.
