Pink Golf Tournament Drives $64,000 Toward New Mammography Machine

Date: October 31, 2025
The first-ever Partners in Pink Golf Tournament teed off to a strong start earlier this month, generating more than $64,000 for the Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital (PECMH) Foundation and its efforts to enhance local breast cancer diagnostics.
Held at the Wellington Golf Course, the sold-out tournament brought together 18 teams and 72 golfers, all united by a shared goal of supporting health care close to home. The funds raised will go toward the purchase of a new digital mammography machine for the future County hospital, a critical tool for early detection of breast cancer.
The hospital’s current mammography unit has been in service for over 12 years and is approaching the end of its lifespan. Replacing it is expected to cost close to $1 million, making community-led fundraising initiatives essential.
Throughout the day, participants shared personal stories that highlighted the importance of having modern diagnostic services available locally. The event itself featured themed pink décor, interactive activities on the course, and an atmosphere focused on community connection and generosity.
Shannon Coull, executive director of the PECMH Foundation, said the success of the inaugural tournament reflects the strong sense of compassion within The County. She noted that the collective efforts of golfers, sponsors, volunteers, and organizers will help ensure residents have access to advanced medical technology without having to travel far from home.
Members of the Partners in Pink Golf Committee echoed that sentiment, calling the event a powerful example of teamwork and local pride. Committee member Kelley Derrett said the overwhelming support made the tournament both enjoyable and meaningful, setting a positive tone for future years.
Several local businesses and organizations played key roles in the event’s success. Title sponsors included Bay of Quinte Mutual Insurance Co., Scotiabank Global Markets, and the Oberste Family, while Augustus House Bed and Breakfast served as the Pink Ribbon Champion. Additional support came from a wide range of community partners and businesses across Wellington and the surrounding area.
Nancy Parks, chairperson of the Back the Build Campaign, emphasized that the mammography machine represents a major investment in community health and credited events like the tournament with helping move the project forward.
The Partners in Pink Golf Tournament supports the PECMH Foundation’s Back the Build campaign, which aims to raise $30 million to help construct and equip a new hospital in The County, ensuring continued access to high-quality medical care for residents and visitors alike.
