A collective of faith communities across Prince Edward County has once again partnered with 99.3 County FM to present the fifth annual “Celebrate Christmas” radio broadcast, airing on Christmas Eve, Dec. 24 at 8 p.m., with a rebroadcast scheduled for Christmas Day at noon.

What began as an alternative way to mark the holiday during pandemic restrictions has grown into a cherished seasonal tradition, bringing together voices from across the County to share messages of hope, reflection, and celebration.

Craig Mills, general manager of 99.3 County FM, said the program was originally created to ensure no one felt disconnected during the holidays, and its warm reception encouraged organizers to continue the initiative.

This year’s broadcast features contributions from 18 local faith communities, blending scripture readings, Christmas carols, and holiday greetings into a single, carefully produced program.

Project founder Rev. Cathy Duggan said the radio format remains vital for many residents, noting that reliable internet access is still limited in parts of the County and that some community members are unable to attend services in person due to health or mobility concerns.

Leadership of the 2024 broadcast is being shared by Rev. Philip Hobbs of Bloomfield United Church and Rev. Aaron Miechkota of the United Church, who are overseeing production alongside County FM Production Lead Gage Broderick.

Rev. Hobbs described the broadcast as a reflection of the spirit of Christmas, emphasizing the importance of connection and shared celebration across congregations.

Participating faith communities this year include churches and organizations from across Prince Edward County, representing a wide range of Christian traditions and community ministries.

The “Celebrate Christmas” broadcast continues to offer a meaningful way for residents to experience the season together, whether listening from home, in care settings, or wherever the holidays find them.
