He explained how the OPP screening, qualification, and interview process works, clarified how board members will be involved, and set expectations around timing. Board members were assured that the board will have direct representation on the interview panel and input into the selection process, with interviews likely occurring late fall and a decision expected by December.
From there, the board reviewed the 2025 operating budget and approved the draft 2026 operating budget, noting a noticeable increase tied primarily to salaries and benefits under the OPP collective agreement.
Staff explained that some adjustments may still occur as the Community Safety and Well-Being budget structure evolves, but the draft was approved for submission to Council as part of the 2026 budget process.
Operational Reports and Accountability Measures
The meeting concluded with a series of operational and accountability reports from Staff Sergeant McKinnon. These included complaints and secondary employment disclosures, a detailed crime and traffic report covering June to August 2025, an in-depth analysis of intimate partner violence cases, and the formal 2024 Detachment Board Annual Report. Several motions were passed to receive these reports and formalize board participation in the detachment commander selection and performance monitoring process.
