Red "CLOSED" sign hangs from a suction cup on a white background, conveying a sense of closure or unavailability.

As Thanksgiving approaches, Prince Edward County is reminding residents of several holiday-related service changes taking place on Monday, October 13.

Municipal offices across the County will be closed for the holiday, reopening the following day on Tuesday, October 14 at 8:30 a.m. Residents are encouraged to plan ahead for any services that require in-person assistance.

Garbage and Recycling Collection

Despite the office closure, curbside garbage, green bin, and recycling pickup will continue as scheduled throughout the holiday period. Residents are asked to have all properly sorted items at the curb by 7 a.m. to avoid missed collection.

If a pickup is missed, Environmental 360 Solutions can be contacted directly. Landfill and transfer stations will operate under regular Saturday hours on October 11.

Recreation Facilities and Programming

All County-operated recreation facilities, including the Wellington and District Community Centre, the Prince Edward Community Centre, and community halls, will be closed on Thanksgiving Monday.

The walking track at the Wellington and District Community Centre will reopen on Tuesday morning and continues to operate on its ice-season schedule, running daily from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m., except during paid admission events.

Regular recreation programming will continue over the weekend, with additional community ice activities scheduled for the P.A. Day on Friday, October 10, offering extra skating and shinny opportunities at both community centres.

Museums and Special Events

County museums will operate on adjusted schedules over the Thanksgiving weekend. Some locations will be open Saturday afternoon, while others will host special events or close for the holiday.

Notable weekend highlights include a South Shore Dark Sky event at Mariners Park Museum on Saturday evening, and the popular Scarecrow Festival at Macaulay Heritage Park on Saturday and Sunday. Macaulay Heritage Park will be closed on Thanksgiving Monday.

Transit and Emergency Services

County Transit will not operate on Monday, October 13. Residents who require urgent municipal assistance after hours can still access emergency services for road, water, or sewer issues through dedicated phone lines.

While some services pause for the holiday, many essential operations continue. Residents are encouraged to check schedules in advance and enjoy a safe and relaxing Thanksgiving weekend.
