A Friendly Face-Off Delivers Big Support for the Picton Food Bank

Date: December 14, 2025
A friendly rivalry took to the ice in Picton this weekend, and the real winner wasn’t decided by the final scorem, it was the community.
The annual Face Off for the Food Bank brought together the Prince Edward County Fire and Rescue hockey team and the Ontario Provincial Police – East Region for a charity game at the Picton arena.
While the OPP team skated away with the on-ice win, the most important victory belonged to the Picton United Church Food Bank.
Community Spirit on Ice
Players from both emergency services teams were met by a supportive crowd, with spectators encouraged to bring food donations or contribute cash to help stock local shelves during a busy time of year. The response was strong, reflecting the community’s ongoing commitment to supporting neighbours in need.
By the end of the event, the food bank received 310 pounds of donated food, along with $102 in cash contributions, a meaningful boost as winter demand continues.
More Than a Game
Events like Face Off for the Food Bank highlight how collaboration and good-natured competition can make a tangible difference locally. Both teams expressed their thanks to everyone who came out, donated, and helped turn an evening of hockey into real support for the community.
As always, the Picton United Church Food Bank remains the true champion - backed by volunteers, donors, and events that show what’s possible when the County comes together.
