Picton Roadside Fundraiser to Support Student Nutrition Programs

Date: November 26, 2023

Drivers travelling through Picton on Tuesday, November 28 may notice a voluntary roadside toll set up at one of the community’s busiest intersections, with funds raised going toward a local school nutrition initiative.

A vibrant assortment of fruits, including bananas, papaya, oranges, grapes, and dragon fruit, on display. Bright and colorful arrangement.

The toll is being organized by the Hastings and Prince Edward Learning Foundation in partnership with the County and the OPP. It will be located at the intersection of Lake Street, Talbot Street, and County Road 33, near the LCBO. Motorists are reminded to slow down and proceed carefully through the area.

All donations collected during the event will support the Food for Learning program, which helps ensure that students across the region have access to healthy, nutritious meals while at school.

The fundraiser is part of the broader “Feed the Meter” campaign, which will also run throughout December. Although parking in Picton becomes free on December 1, residents and visitors are encouraged to continue donating by placing money in parking meters, with all proceeds again directed to Food for Learning.

Free parking along Picton Main Street and Market Lane will remain in effect until March 31, 2024.
