Wellington Rotary and Community Rally Behind New Hospital Project
Date: October 17, 2023
Support from the Rotary Club of Wellington and the broader community is helping move the new Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital one step closer to reality.
Rotary members recently presented a donation of $15,462.42 to the Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital Foundation (PECMHF). The funds were raised through the club’s “Dig It” fundraising dinner and dance, an event made possible by strong community participation.

Lyn McGowan, President of the Rotary Club of Wellington, said the club is proud to support the hospital project, describing the local hospital as a cornerstone of the community. She noted that the new facility will not only replace an aging structure but also ensure continued access to high-quality healthcare for residents.
With this latest contribution, the Rotary Club of Wellington has now raised more than $544,000 in support of the new hospital and essential medical equipment for the existing facility. The club, which has approximately 40 members, is celebrating its 21st anniversary this year.
Shannon Coull, Executive Director of the PECMH Foundation, expressed gratitude to both the Rotary Club and the community members who supported the fundraiser. She said the donation represents another meaningful step toward creating a modern hospital that meets local healthcare needs, while also recognizing the club’s role in encouraging community-wide generosity.
In recognition of the Rotary Club’s fundraising achievements, the waiting area in the Emergency Department of the new hospital will be named in honour of the club’s contribution.
Nancy Parks, Campaign Chair for the Back the Build fundraising initiative, highlighted the importance of service clubs like Rotary in shaping the future of healthcare delivery in Prince Edward County, noting that the new hospital will offer leading-edge care close to home.
The Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital Foundation is working toward a $27 million fundraising goal to support construction of the new hospital, which will be built behind the current hospital in Picton. The 96,000-square-foot facility is expected to open in 2027, with construction scheduled to begin in 2024.
