Birders Invited to Take Part in Christmas Bird Counts Across the County

Bird enthusiasts in Prince Edward County are invited to join a continent-wide citizen science effort as the annual Christmas Bird Count returns this winter.

Birds perch on snowy wooden bird feeder pecking at seeds. Background shows a wintry forest. Blue, yellow, and green hues dominate.

Running from mid-December to early January, the count brings together volunteers of all ages and experience levels to help track bird populations during the final stage of fall migration. Participants spend a full day recording all birds seen or heard within a fixed 24-kilometre circle, contributing valuable data used by scientists to monitor long-term population trends,

habitat changes, and environmental threats.

Now in its 124th year, the Christmas Bird Count is North America’s longest-running wildlife survey, and every observation helps support bird conservation and research.
