County-Wide Burn Ban Issued Due to High Winds

Date: November 21, 2023

A full burn ban is in effect across Prince Edward County on Tuesday, November 21, as strong wind conditions increase the risk of uncontrolled fires.

The ban prohibits all outdoor burning, including campfires, burn barrels, chimeneas, brush piles, and yard waste fires. As part of the restriction, all burn permits have been suspended, and the online permit system has been temporarily disabled, preventing activation of permits.

Certain cooking and heating devices are not affected by the ban. Residents may continue to use wood pellet or charcoal cooking appliances, such as smokers and grills, as well as propane- or natural gas-fuelled appliances and outdoor fireplaces.

The Fire Chief continues to monitor weather forecasts and ground conditions and will lift or update the burn ban once it is safe to do so.

Residents can check the current burn status at any time by calling 1-833-376-1011 or by visiting the County website.

For non-emergency inquiries, contact Prince Edward County Fire Dispatch at 613-476-2345 or by email at fire@pecounty.on.ca. Suspected illegal burning should be reported immediately by calling 613-476-2345, while emergencies require a 9-1-1 call.
