Family Escapes Safely as Fire Destroys Victoria Road Home

Date: November 15, 2023

A family of four escaped without injury after a house fire destroyed their home on Victoria Road Wednesday afternoon.

Prince Edward County Fire & Rescue responded to multiple 9-1-1 calls at approximately 12:48 p.m. Crews arrived to find the residence fully engulfed in flames, according to Deputy Fire Chief Tim Kraemer.

Given the intensity of the fire, firefighters were forced to adopt a defensive firefighting strategy, as conditions made entry into the structure impossible. An excavator was brought in to assist crews in removing the roof to help suppress the blaze.

The displaced family is being supported by Victim Services, which provides immediate crisis intervention, trauma support, and safety assistance following sudden emergencies.

While no injuries were reported, the home sustained extensive damage, with losses estimated at approximately $750,000. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, and firefighters continued to monitor the scene into the evening to ensure no remaining hot spots reignited.
