Drivers should plan for an overnight shutdown of Highway 49 at the Bay of Quinte Skyway Bridge as construction crews carry out critical work next month.

GIP Construction & Materials Limited, formerly known as Aecon Construction & Materials Limited, has announced that the bridge will be fully closed to all traffic beginning at 9:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 8, and reopening at 6:00 a.m. on Friday, June 9. During this time, vehicles will not be allowed to cross the bridge.

The temporary closure is required to allow crews to install new bridge girders in Segment A. These components will remain positioned on the bridge for an extended duration, making it unsafe for traffic to continue during the operation.

If weather conditions prevent the work from proceeding as planned, the closure will be postponed to the same overnight timeframe, starting Monday, June 12, through the morning of Tuesday, June 13.

Motorists are advised to plan alternate routes and allow extra travel time during the scheduled closure period.
