New Traffic Detours Announced for Picton Main Street Construction
Date: July 17, 2023
Motorists and transit users are being advised of an updated detour plan for the ongoing Picton Main Street reconstruction project, which will take effect on Monday, July 24.

As part of the revised traffic plan, Picton Main Street will be fully closed between Johnson Street and Division Street. Despite the closure, access to local properties will remain available throughout construction.
The section of Picton Main Street between Division Street and McFarland Drive will be restricted to local traffic only, including access to the hospital and medical centre. Entry to the Picton Fairgrounds will be maintained via Bay Street.
Drivers traveling through the area will be redirected along Johnson Street, with detours connecting to MacSteven Drive or McFarland Drive. To support traffic flow, the intersection of Johnson Street and MacSteven Drive has been changed to a three-way stop.
Quinte Transit users will also notice temporary changes. Pick-up and drop-off locations on Picton Main Street near Life Labs and Crystal Palace will be suspended during construction. A temporary transit stop has been established on Johnson Street near Picton Main Street, with signage installed to guide riders.
The reconstruction project began June 5 and covers the stretch from Johnson Street to approximately 250 metres east of Spencer Street. The scope of work includes:
Replacement of underground infrastructure, such as watermains and sanitary and storm sewers
Complete roadway reconstruction, including new concrete curbs, gutters, sidewalks, and a fresh asphalt surface
The project is being carried out by RW Tomlinson Limited and is divided into three construction phases:
Phase 1: Johnson Street to Bay Street, continuing until late August
Phase 2: Bay Street to Spencer Street, starting late August with completion expected by November
Phase 3: Spencer Street to roughly 250 metres east of Spencer, scheduled for 2024
Residents and visitors are encouraged to plan ahead, follow posted signage, and allow additional travel time while construction is underway.
