Motorists are advised that the Skyway Bridge will be fully closed to traffic overnight on Monday, October 30, beginning at 9:00 p.m. and reopening at 6:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 31.

Should unfavourable weather interfere with the scheduled work, the closure will be postponed to the same overnight timeframe from November 1 to November 2.

The temporary shutdown is required to allow crews to complete the installation of structural steel girders between the North Abutment and Pier 1. During this period, Highway 49 traffic will not be permitted to cross the bridge, and drivers must plan alternate routes.

The Skyway Bridge spans approximately 850 metres and serves as a high-level crossing over the Bay of Quinte, carrying two lanes of Highway 49 traffic. Originally constructed in 1967, the structure is undergoing a major multi-year rehabilitation project.

The ongoing work includes full replacement of the steel girders and bridge deck, rehabilitation of the piers, and reconstruction of the abutments. Once completed, the bridge deck will be slightly widened and will feature 1.5-metre shoulders on both sides to improve safety.

Rehabilitation efforts began in 2018, with the project planned to replace individual bridge segments over a five-year period.
