Prince Edward County Fire and Rescue has confirmed that the partial burn ban has been lifted, allowing open air burning to resume after weather and ground conditions met safety requirements.

As of Monday, August 21, all open air fires are permitted across the municipality.

The most recent restriction had been put in place on August 18 due to forecast high winds. Under that partial ban, residents were limited to fires in screened containers or small campfires, while propane-fuelled appliances such as barbecues and fire tables remained allowed.

Earlier in August, a series of changing weather conditions, including high winds exceeding 30 km/h, led to both partial and total burn bans being enacted and lifted as conditions fluctuated. A total burn ban, which prohibits all outdoor burning, was briefly implemented on August 8 before restrictions were later eased.

Fire officials emphasize that burn permits are required for all open air burning, regardless of ban status. The Fire Chief continually evaluates weather forecasts and ground conditions to determine when restrictions are necessary and will issue updates as conditions change.

Residents are reminded to follow all safety regulations when burning and to stay informed during periods of elevated fire risk.

For additional information, residents may contact Prince Edward County Fire Dispatch at 613-476-2345 or by email at fire@pecounty.on.ca. Complaints related to illegal burning should be reported immediately by calling 613-476-2345, and emergencies should be directed to 911.
