A 71-year-old driver has died following a single-vehicle collision in Picton earlier this week.

Police car with flashing lights behind a vehicle in a snowy street at night. Traffic light shows green. Scene has a tense, urgent mood.

Prince Edward County OPP are continuing to investigate the incident, which occurred on Main Street near Paul Street on Monday, April 1, shortly before 3 p.m. Police say the driver was found unconscious at the scene and was transported to hospital, where they were later pronounced dead.

Preliminary findings suggest the driver suffered a medical episode prior to the crash.

During the emergency response, a police cruiser was struck on the driver’s side by another vehicle. Neither driver was injured in that secondary collision.

Ontario Provincial Police are reminding motorists to remain alert and follow directions when emergency vehicles are attending a call, including safely pulling to the right when instructed.
