Municipal crews are carrying out urgent repair work following a watermain break on Picton Main Street that occurred on January 5.

The County’s Water and Wastewater team has been working through the night to address the issue, with repairs expected to be completed in the early hours of January 6.

Water gushes from a burst pipe on a street, splashing high. A silver car is parked nearby. Trees and a building are in the background.

As a result of the work, Picton Main Street has been restricted to local traffic only. Detours have been put in place, directing vehicles around the construction zone via Johnson Street and McFarland Drive. McSteven Street remains open, allowing vehicles to travel between the two north-side intersections.

Drivers are advised to avoid the affected area if possible and use alternate routes while repairs continue.

Officials say the work is not expected to affect overall water quality. However, some customers in the area may experience reduced water pressure or temporary discoloration once the watermain is returned to service. Residents noticing coloured water are advised to run cold water from the tap closest to their water meter until the water clears after maintenance is completed.
