Emergency crews from Prince Edward County Fire & Rescue responded to a commercial structure fire on York Street in Picton early Thursday morning. The call came in at approximately 8:45 a.m. at SWMR Automotive Service Repair.

Bright orange flames rise against a dark background, creating a dramatic and intense atmosphere, with no visible text or people.

Upon arrival, firefighters located a small fire within the roof structure of the building. Investigators later determined the blaze was caused by the operation of a fuel-fired heating stove. To fully extinguish the fire, crews had to remove a section of the roof.

The incident resulted in an estimated $10,000 in damage. No injuries were reported, and the surrounding area was cleared and reopened to traffic by 11 a.m.

Fire officials also noted that crews had been busy earlier in the week, responding to a structure fire on Inkerman Avenue Wednesday evening, February 21, as well as a single-storey house fire on Albert Street late Tuesday night, February 20.
